Preventing Skin Cancer
Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world. Our sun loving, beach going culture exposes us to the ill effects of too much time in the sun, and many pay each and every day - often with their lives.
However, it is a vital part of our health and wellbeing that we do spend some time in the sun each day, as the light provides us with vital supplies of Vitamin D, the major role of which is to increase the flow of calcium into the bloodstream.
The best solution to this dilemma is to spend time outdoors in the shade. A good shade cover will filter the harmful UV rays by up to 98%, allowing the skin to absorb the other frequencies of light and take in Vitamin D. We do not need to stay inside - but we do have to be mindful about how long we specd outdoors, and how much direct exposure to the sun our skin is taking.
